The gun is fired via an electric trigger and controlled from the aircraft’s cockpit, so the safing device interrupts the firing circuit and disables arming unless the pilot or fire-control system issues a safe-armed signal. This electronic safing integrates with the aircraft’s safety and fire-control systems, allowing rapid, remote control of the gun status and clear indication to the crew.

Electrical safing is preferred here because it provides fast, reliable control under high-G conditions and complex cockpit environments, without adding bulky physical interlocks at the gun itself. Mechanical safes would require a physical lock at the weapon, which is less practical for an internally mounted, electronically controlled system, and hydraulic or pneumatic safeties would introduce fluid systems with leaks and slower response.
